Program Overview

"Reading Came First" is a unique book club program launched by the RAPBRARY in partnership with The Closet Unlocked and Nobody's Darling Bar. This program aims to celebrate and amplify literature by Black and Brown LGBTQIA+ authors globally. It offers a platform for participants to engage in meaningful dialogue, connect with the community, and explore the richness of Black LGBTQIA+ experiences. The book club will meet monthly, with book selections rotating every other month to allow ample time for reading, reflection, and discussion.

Program Details

  • Start Date: Wednesday, September 25th, 2024

  • Meeting Frequency: Monthly on the last Wednesday of each month

  • Book Rotation: Every other month

  • Location: Nobody's Darling Bar

  • Host: Roy Kinsey, the Rapbrarian

  • Special Features: 

    • Mini RAPBRARY library available to the public

    • Themed drink mixes curated for each book selection

Launch Event:

The program will kick off on September 25th, 2024, with a special launch event featuring an introduction to the first book, a keynote speaker, and a themed drink tasting sponsored by Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey. This inaugural event will set the tone for the book club's inclusive, engaging, and celebratory atmosphere.
