Closet Moments: Anonymous Submissions
Thank you for agreeing to join our community!
The Closet Unlocked is a platform that amplifies the voices and experiences of Black, Queer folks. Through music, personal (anonymous) stories, news, and more, we highlight the positive moments of the LGBTQ+ community. The purpose of this is to bring awareness to the strength in each of those journeys instead of the negative and to show others that they are not alone in their experiences.
For the 2024 cycle, we’re calling for anonymous submissions to our ‘Closet Moments’ publication from Black, LGBTQ+ individuals to anonymously share their stories of growing up navigating life through a lens of black queerness — because we acknowledge that it isn’t a guidebook for it. By exploring the concept of people being “in the closet,” community members engage in therapeutic outlets to foster a sense of belonging within our community and show others that they’re not alone in their life’s journey. This initiative turns a narrative analysis of anonymously collected qualitative data into anthology-style nonfiction stories to assess long-term Queer belonging in Black spaces.
Summary:
‘Closet Moments’ are experiences shared by individuals from the Black, LGBTQ+ community through therapeutic outlets, to show others that they're not alone in their own life journey.
Our open call for the 2024 set of anthology stories is now accepting submissions from Black Queer people about their experiences living, learning, and loving within community.
